Tampa, Fla. (April 10, 2018) – As part of this year’s International Conference on Underwater Education (ICUE, or IQ), NAUI Worldwide has several events scheduled alongside the annual Scuba Show in Long Beach, California, on June 23-24. Events will recognize the legacy and contributions made to scuba diving by Lloyd Bridges and the cast of Sea Hunt in honor of the show’s 60th Anniversary.
To kickoff the weekends’ events, NAUI is hosting a special evening dinner reception beginning at 6 p.m. on Friday, June 22 at Nelson’s Restaurant, overlooking the Pacific coast in Rancho Palos Verdes, California. Special guests Zale Parry and Lucinda Bridges will be in attendance to share stories and discuss the Sea Hunt memorabilia that fills the famous restaurant.
California’s Nelson’s Restaurant is named in honor of Mike Nelson, the hero from the Sea Hunt TV series (1958-61). The adventure show captivated audiences with the vast Pacific Ocean coastline serving as one of Sea Hunt’s filming locations. Just north of Los Angeles, at the former Marineland of the Pacific and now Terranea Resort, Nelson’s is situated near the bluff overlooking the coast. The restaurant’s walls have entertaining posters from many of the episodes, all action-packed with the legendary Mike Nelson as the champion, and thoughtfully collected and donated by Lloyd Bridges’ daughter, Lucinda.
Along with a distinguished list of ICUE speakers, several special guests, including Zale Parry (NAUI A12), will be in attendance and recognized for their contribution to ICUE and the diving industry as a whole. Throughout the weekend, Ms. Parry’s longtime friend and Lloyd Bridges family representative, Lucinda Bridges, will join in special events honoring her father and the 60th anniversary of Sea Hunt.
Seating for the Friday night Nelson’s dinner is limited and available first come, first serve. Reservations for this exclusive event can be made via the registration link or by visiting www.naui.org/about/icue/. For additional event and payment details, contact Shannon McCoy at +1 813-628-6284.
On Sunday, June 24, at 10 a.m. in Room Seaside 7, ICUE and Scuba Show attendees can also enjoy an intimate look behind the scenes of Sea Hunt as Zale Parry provides a special rolling commentary and compilation of clips during the ICUE presentation, “Sea Hunt — 60 years in 60 minutes.”
ICUE is open to any and all dive professionals and enthusiasts, and entry is included with purchase of a Scuba Show seminar pass.
