Preconditioning for Safer Scuba Diving

This column is adapted from a chapter in my book, Scuba Physiological – Think you know all about Scuba Medicine? Think Again! The chapters in this book were originally written by scientists in the field of decompression research as part of a three-year project called PHYPODE (Physiology of Decompression). My (self-appointed) task was to rewrite their sometimes-complex research in a form accessible to all divers.

New Green Diver Initiative Manager Selected to Expand Local and Global Aquatic Conservation Efforts

With support from NAUI Worldwide, NSG will expand its operations with the selection of O’Connor to fill the GDI Manager position at NAUI headquarters in Tampa, Florida. In this position, O’Connor is responsible for initiatives focused on environmental and aquatic resources sustainability, diver best practices, and fundraising to support grassroots initiatives.

Much of O’Connor’s focus as the GDI Manager is to ensure its growth, grant-giving and tax-deductible contributions and lead the effort to expand the reach and impact of the GDI and its partner organizations.

The USS Lexington was scuttled about 800 kilometres (500 miles) miles off the eastern coast of Australia in May 1942 after sustaining serious damage from Japanese aircraft. A series of secondary explosions after the Japanese attack sealed the ship's fate and one of her own escorting destroyers was ordered to finish off the crippled carrier.
