The Artificial Reef Society of British Columbia & Catalyst Paper announce plans for historic artificial reef project

The ARSBC, which has sunk more ships and aircraft than any other non-profit group in the world to create marine habitat, will consult with Catalyst within the federal government’s regulatory framework for the disposal of these vessels at sea. This will require applying for permits and/or approvals from Environment Canada, Transport Canada and the Department of Fisheries & Oceans.

Ocean Maps creates 3D interactive dive site maps in Palau

This month, Ocean Maps undertook the venture of mapping dive sites in Palau with the help of Chris Lubba from Palau Dive Adventures. Two Ocean Maps team members set off on boats from March 8-11 to measure 28 sites including the Blue Hole and the German Channel. The company had recently purchased new equipment and the Palau expedition was its maiden voyage.

New World record in free diving under the ice

Croatia’s Valentina Cafolla, 19, set a new world record for distance on Sunday to 125 meters beneath a sheet of ice up to 70 centimeters thick on the Lago Di Anterselva Lake in the Italian Alps – beating the previous world record held by Turkey’s Denya Can. Cafolla accomplished the feat on the second and final attempt after aborting her first attempt.

The current felt like the wind on a breezy day, and it was blowing me past the coral-covered sheer wall that disappeared over 60m (200ft) below me. Looking directly down, I noticed the color blue fading into slightly darker shades and finally into darkness, at the edge of how far I could see.

Hollywood is attributed with recognizing the natural beauty of Tioman Island in the 1950s as an exotic tropical paradise. Having seen one of the films as a child, it created an impression of a place I would like to visit someday. I never imagined it would set the stage for my first experience of diving in Malaysia. Tioman delivered on an enchanting dream.
