GVB launches new campaign: Visit Guam 2017 – The Year of Love

“We have had tremendous success with our Only on Guam campaign in this last year and how it was driven by the community through sharing their photos and videos of what they love about our island home. We definitely want to continue the momentum into 2017 with our new Year of Love theme,” said GVB President and CEO Nathan Denight. “Whether it’s romantic love, love of self, love for family and friends, love for food and adventure, love for culture, or love of the world around you, Visit Guam 2017 Year of Love will be a celebration of love by all definitions.”

2016 SoCal Shootout Results

This year's entries really showcased some of the incredible marine life of SoCal with the Best in Show photo of two green sea turtles by Ralph Pace. In addition to those rarely seen visitors to our area, we had great entries with Mola Mola, Giant Black Sea Bass, seahorses, leopard sharks, rare nudibranchs and more.

Sharks and Rays Receive CITES APPENDIX II Protection!

CITES voted today on proposals to list silky sharks, all three species of thresher sharks and all nine species of mobula rays on Appendix II.

Silky and thresher sharks have shown declines of between 70 and 80% across their ranges, with local declines of more than 90%. Mobula rays are declining as well, and have become more heavily targeted since manta rays received CITES protection in 2013. All three species are wide-ranging with a global distribution, and all proposals were drafted by large collaborations of more than 20 coastal countries, representing all oceanic regions.
