Tourists returning to Kenya

After the turmoil following the election in late 2007, the sitation has returned to calm. This is good news for those wanting to combine good diving with fantastic safaries.
Kenya Tourism Board

Only 8,000 tourists travelled to Kenya’s Coastal resorts in January due to the violence, compared to an expected 100,000 visitors. The Kenyan Tourist Board in cooperation with the travel industry is trying to put the country back on the destination map again.

East Africa boasts a long barrier reef, stretching from the coast of Somalia along Kenya to southern Tanzania. It provides a food source and shelter to a vast array of marine life including the majestic whale shark and manta ray. There are several dive centres both south and north of Mombasa.

The Kenyan coast is among the worlds best sites for whale shark encounters. The best time for sightings in Kenya are the months of Sept-Oct and Jan-Feb.

Kenya also strives in marine conservation and has set up protected breeding sites for sea turtles along the coastline.
