Despite high fuel prices, people want to travel

St. Lucia Tourist Board

Diving on the Carribean island St.Lucia is still on many peoples travel itinerary
TripAdvisor, the world's largest travel community, today announced the results of its annual summer travel survey of more than 4,000 travelers worldwide. Ninety-one percent of global respondents and 90 percent of Americans are planning leisure travel this summer.

This is good news for all of the travel industry. According to the survey 11 percent expect to go scuba diving/snorkeling.
- High gas prices, a weak U.S. dollar and the struggling economy are conspiring against Americans, but travelers refuse to stay home this summer, said Michele Perry, vice president of global communications for TripAdvisor.
The holidays season is just about to start, and the world is heading for one of the most challenging vacation travel seasons since the SARS epidemic in 2003. Gas prices are way up, and that's pushing up the price of so many other things including hotels, airfare and even food.
- You need to set a budget. Because once you know how much you have to spend, you can work with a travel agent to come up with something that fits the bill, says Cheryl Hudak, President and CEO of ASTA, the American Society of Travel Agents.
