Museum workers move the landing gear of a B-26 Marauder recovered from the Gulf of Mexico.

As a team of explorers prepares to search the Gulf of Mexico for more historical wrecks, they hope to release a documentary of their 2008 search that turned up the wreckage of a B-26 Marauder near Fort Myers, Fla.

According to the News-Press of Fort Myers, the team of Tim Wicburg, Brian Ulman, Tom O'Brien and Jon Hazelbaker found the wreckage of a B-26 that crashed on Nov. 16, 1942, after taking off from Fort Myers Army Airbase, which is now known as Page Field.

They were able to get the radio call number from the plane and recovered the right propeller, which was later examined by a Florida aviation company. They attributed the cause of the crash to be failure of the propeller.

The News-Press reported that the expedition was filmed and the team is seeking financing for the release.

The team also formed Underwater Historical Explorations, an organization specializing in historical wrecks, and plans to search additional sites in the Gulf of Mexico.
