Divers claim to find WWII wreck in Australian waters

The wreck of a ship sunk in Australian waters during World War II has been found. But divers who made the discovery aren't ready yet to reveal its resting place.
The Florence D was similar to this ship, the Lake Fiscus.

One of the first ships sunk in Australian waters during World War II has been located off the Tiwi Islands in the Northern Territory, according to two divers.

Japanese bombers hit the USS Florence D in February 1942, killing four people. Thirty survivors escaped in a lifeboat to Bathurst Island.

Jim Miles and Wayne Keeping told the Northern Territory News of Australia they located the ship in murky waters off Bathurst Island. The bow was blown up but the stern was intact, with the ship resting on its starboard side.

For now, the divers are not revealing the exact location. They told the Northern Territory News they want to protect the wreck as a war grave.
