Secretary Ray Mabus sees no major hurdles from the Obama administration in implementing policy changes that would allow women to serve on submarines.

While Mabus gave no specific timeline for when the change would take effect, he said, “Women should have the ability to serve throughout the Navy,” and sees no major hurdles to their becoming submariners.

However, Mabus says Navy officials first must figure out how to do it and notify Congress about the plan. Then women must complete training to serve.
