US airlines resume flights to Cuba

US commercial flight arrived in Cuba for the first time in more than half a century.

The US government has given approval to eight airlines for flights to the Cuban capital Havana.

The announcement comes on the same day as the first commercial flight between the two countries in 55 years.

Under President Obama, the US has begun normalising relationships with Cuba.

The Obama administration has approved 10 US-based airlines for regular passenger jet service to Cuba, offering as many as 110 daily flights.

The approved airlines include: American Airlines, Delta Airlines, Alaska Airlines, Frontier Airlines, JetBlue, Silver Airways, Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines, Sun Country and United Airlines.
