Stiff sentences for turtle poachers

A woman from Sonoma County in California pleaded guilty to illegally importing guitar picks made from the shells of sea turtles, the Los Angeles Times reported on May 9
Qing Song admitted to importing picks of Hawksbill turtle shell from China and selling them in the United States. Some musicians covet the turtle shell picks instead of the plastic picks because they believe they produce superior tone. Song was sentenced to 10-months of home confinement and a $2,000 fine.
Eggs too
For the second time, Bruce Bivins has been caught poaching sea turtle eggs. It is estimated that Bivins poached 119 turtle eggs from local beaches. Stealing sea turtle eggs is a third-class felony, the The Palm Beach Post writes
After a tip-off, police spotted a man near the Intercoastal Waterway carrying a sack and trying to throw the eggs into the water. As Bivins was headed to jail, Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission officials and a biologist headed to the island’s beaches to re-bury the eggs.
