Dolphin-VR3 question

2 hours 44 min ago
Hi,

I have a VR3 (version 2.1CXR on the home page). I am using it with a Drager Dolphin Semi-closed rebreather with the Fisher cable. I have purchased the PIN for the external sensor.

My concern is that when I dive in semi closed rebreather mode as per the manual, I am not able to see the P02. When I dive, it shows the F02, displaying X Nx 30 (for a 30% mix) but it does not show the P02. Is there any way for the VR3 to continuously display the P02 while diving semi closed rebreather mode so that I can continuosly monitor it.

Thanks

Does anyone have a nice diagram of the loop for the Megalodon that you would not mind me adding to a presentation for our hyperbaric fellows? I need one in the next week or so.

Would you dive your sorb when the lid was open for a day?

2 September, 2010 - 13:24
Hi,

forgotten to put back the cartridge and close the lid of my canister for a day (after a 80minutes dive).
Would you still use it for a short 70 min dive (max 30m deep)?

MX 90 Danger!!!

2 September, 2010 - 04:27
I was not sure whether to post this here or in accidents and incidents but here goes
Our dear friend AG is advocating something that looks incredibly dangerous unless I am missing something...
Quote:
The interesting part is that I was unable to sustain a workload for 5 minutes to get it to drop more than 0.35. What I found was that after 5 mins, without adding any additional O2 or Diluent, the breathing loop volume had become so diminished due to the O2 metabolism that it become very difficult to breath, and by 7 minutes into the test it was impossible to breath and by 8 mins I had to bailout to open circuit because I could not breath the loop. In other words, I would run out of loop volume before significant or dangerous levels of PPO2 drop. This volume depletion is essentially an "alarm" of sorts that warns the diver that additional gas is needed. Adding O2 would both return the loop volume and the PPO2. Keep in mind we do dive standardized gases on the diluent side, so if the diver simply added dil at depth the PPO2 would still be very close to 1.0 or above, since the standard backgases have a PPO2 of approximately 1.2 at depth. Hence the advantage of using standardized mixes as diluent.
OK so at 2 ata using a po2 of 1.0 you would have fo2 of 0.5. Let's say you have 9l counterlung volume that means you would have 4.5l of O2 in the CL and yes you would probably notice the loop volume decrease before you became hypoxic. If you were at 6ATA (165 ft) you would have 1.5l of O2 in your counterlung and you would be dead before your counterlungs bottomed out.
Someone please tell me I am missing something:eek:

Coelacanth Fever - in Search of the Living Fossil By Jitka Hyniova

1 September, 2010 - 20:49

Coelacanth Fever - in Search of the Living Fossil By Jitka Hyniova Underwater studies off the coast of South Africa, using submersible vessels, revealed that Coelacanths inhabit submarine caves and canyons found in slopes and walls in waters 100-700 meters deep. The adult Coelacanths can grow to about 1.5 meter long. They appear to be active at night, spending their day hovering near the ocean bottom. Scientists believe that Coelacanths can live as long as 80 years.

SoCal Trip - Want to get some rebreather dives in!!

1 September, 2010 - 20:46
Hello all,

Been lurking here for the better part of a year, recently took the plunge and am now the proud owner of an Inspiration Vision. I'm still very green but am using every opportunity to dive and improve. While doing so, upping the dives and hours towards getting Trimix-certified on the unit.

In that spirit, I'm planning a week in Southern California (starting in L.A. and ending in San Diego) in late September and am looking to get some diving done in the new configuration. Searching through these forums, I've found reviews of various dive boats and know there are shore dives. The questions I have are:
  • Any way to pretty much ensure I can dive every day? From what I see, open boat dives are not that frequent, unless I've been looking in the wrong places. And none of their websites mention rebreathers.
  • Can you point out rebreather-friendly dive shops, i.e. places where can I find supplies, mostly Sofnolime?
  • Would you lug your tanks or is tank rental for Inspos easy in one of the aforementioned rebreather-friendly dive shops? I've got the tek/travel frame, so I know that opens up possibilities.
  • Any dive site recommendations? I know I want to dive the kelp forests and see garibaldi, but I'm sure that's just scratching the surface...
One would think planning this would be a piece of cake, but finding timely information for someone traveling to the area is not an obvious undertaking. Mind you, I'm sure it's the same around here (1000 Islands area).

Many thanks in advance!

Phil

SC versus OC

1 September, 2010 - 18:17
I know where there is a mint Drager Ray for sale for little money, and was wondering if people would go for that, rather than single tank OC diving?

I have a KISS Classic, and dive it regularly, but for really shallow dives, 10-15m, rather than take the KISS, would semi-closed not be better?

I do not want to CC the Ray, just leave it as it is, and the pre and post dive maintenance is not an issue.

What do you think?

Kija Blue - Australia's Remotest Cave Exploration

1 September, 2010 - 01:16

Kija Blue - Australia's Remotest Cave Exploration Text by Richard Harris A massive sinkhole or cenote, many miles from the remote township of Warnum was the reason for our makeshift camp in this loneliest part of Australia. Swags and wetsuits marked the temporary home of the six explorers who came from different corners of the country with the common goals of discovery and adventureÂ…

Apologies, I might be looking for advice soon :)

31 August, 2010 - 22:35
I've had an account on here for a while (2008) but only to look at the odd bit of info that interested me.
I am now seriously considering an Inspo classic, in fact I am going to take a look at one on Saturday. Not that I know what I'm looking at!
As far as Rebreather's go I know next to nothing, so please excuse any naive questions I might post in the near future :)

Cheers,
Ray.

New to RBW

31 August, 2010 - 22:15
Howdy-
This is my first post to RBW although I have been lurking for a bit.
I trained on the Inspiration with Steve Bogaerts some years ago.
IÂ’m the dive supervisor for the U.S. Antarctic Program and have an interest in rebreathers for science diving especially in cold, relatively shallow conditions.
I am newly interested in the Posiedon Mk VI as it seems like an ideal unit for diving scientists as most of these folks are simply not into the diving technology. Ease of use is a key factor as is the training requirements for the unit.
IÂ’ll be hitting you guys up for information pertaining to your use of the Mk VI, operational costs and general impressions of the unit compared to other rebreathers.
IÂ’ve already learned a bunch just reading in the background.
Best Regards- Rob Robbins
