|I can’t help likening this island to a chromosome. It’s contorted shape not only looks like one, but also has its different features spread out along different points even when you zoom in. Our focal point is the northern region. On the western side of the tip, we find Bunaken national park with its majestic drop-offs, on the top of the area around Gangga Island, and on the eastern side, Lembeh, famous for its critter diving.Download pdf: North Sulawesi unplugged_____ -

|Global diving travel has become increasingly easy over the last decade or so, providing easy access to a growing number of tropical and exotic destinations. So, for many divers residing in cooler climates or new to the sport, it is tempting to look only towards these warm distant destinations and perhaps ignore the wealth of marine life on their own doorstep.Download pdf: Cornish reefs_____ -

|If there is any hidden secret in the Mediterranean, it is the island of Vis. For many years, it was a forbidden and restricted military area. It was not until 1991, when the iron curtain finally came down, that it was opened up for tourism and diving. On Vis, small picturesque port towns and spectacular wrecks, drop-offs and caverns are waiting to be discovered by divers.Download pdf: Vis - Croatia_____ -

|The current grabs you as soon as you enter the water. Your first thought, this is going to be a wild one! The adrenalin is flowing as fast in your veins as the currents is flowing past kelp covered rocks. Diving the strongest malstroem on the planet is not for the fainthearted. It is extremely fun though!Download pdf: Saltstraumen_____ -

|Scott Bennett writes: I’d like to introduce you to some of our friends, enthused our guide Manasa, AKA Papa, as he held aloft a well-worn loose-leaf binder. The photographs within produced nervous laughter and a couple of anxious glances amongst a few of the divers. Then again, with names like Scarface, Hook and Big Mama, these were no ordinary friends. They were sharks, and we would soon be making their acquaintance.Download pdf: Shark Diving & Vibrant Reefs in Beqa Lagoon_____ -

|Utila is the smallest of the Bay Islands off the coast of Honduras, where divers go in search of whalesharks, but find much more. Being the Executive Director of The Manta Network, a global conservation organization, I was very interested in the local efforts to protect whalesharks. Patric Douglas, Director of SharkDiver.com, invited us to stay in Utila and write about his dive group’s whaleshark experiences.Download pdf: Great White Shark_____ -

|There is something special about it, the Red Sea, that I have not found anywhere else on the planet. Granted every destination has its own, but here there is this special ambience of timeless mystique, of remoteness and rugged adventure that just hangs thick in the atmosphere with a whiff of historical greatness and millenias past, topped up with a scent of spices and a distant smell of charcoal from a campfire, or perhaps a sisha—a waterpipe. Once you get past the sprawling resorts that now send their sprouting tubers and seeds out along the barren coastline—yes, they do market this place aggressively as the “Red Sea Riviera”—you suddenly find yourself in a land where time just seems to cease to exist. The sun wanders across the sky, so does the moon, but what day is it? Out in the desert, who cares? Who is there to care anyway, save for a few scattered Bedouins?Download pdf: Red Sea_____ -

|“Have a great time, but keep your head down!” This was the response I received from a diving friend after announcing I was planning a visit to Ambon. At least he knew where it was; my announcement to friends in Toronto drew blank stares. When I mentioned the Spice Islands, a dawn of recognition crept into their eyes. It was a place they’d vaguely heard of but had no idea whatsoever as to their location.Download pdf: Ambon_____ -

|The “Visayas” is a group of islands that comprises the central portion of the Philippine archipelago. A few Visayan islands are popular among travelers, such as Cebu and Boracay; while the majority remain low-profile but nonetheless exquisite. I have been regularly diving in the Visayas during the last six years. I go there primarily to take underwater photographs of marine life, and at the same time enjoy its tranquil ambiance. The diving destinations are all situated in small towns, away from the urban bustle of Cebu City—a metropolis with an international airport and my gateway to the serene islands.Download pdf: Visayas_____ -

|Henry Nelson. Does the name ring a bell? You’ll not find him in any history book or see any monuments to his honor. However, the thousands of scuba divers who visit Vanuatu every year should bless this name. This former French/English colony, which was named New Hebrides till 1980, was also the second most important US base in the pacific during WWII. The 80 islands strategically located between Fiji and Australia is still home to some remains of this strange time. Amongst them is the wreck of the SS President Coolidge.Download pdf: President Coolidge_____

|El Salvador’s many volcanoes have left several volcanic craters, which, over time, have filled with rainwater. The crater that is most used for scuba diving is Ilopango. Volcanic Crater diving is a rare opportunity to experience El Salvador at its finest. Breathtaking green and blue water filled craters surrounded by dramatic cliffs feature a venue not offered in many locations. You can experience great cliffs and walls, that can go down to 231 mts (775 feet) and volcanic hot water outlets during your dives.

|The southern part of this Mediterranean island receives the bulk of tourists, but slowly the tourism industry north on the diveded island has developed. A result of that are more opportunities for diving. As a result of former border restrictions and few tourists, much of the cost is very little dived. This is changing.

|Our good friends from DivePhotoGuide proudly present a very special trip for 2009 to the Revillagigedos Archipelago, more commonly called Socorro, located in the eastern Pacific Ocean approximately 250 miles south of Cabo San Lucas, Mexico, at the tip of the Baja peninsula, on the live aboard dive vessel the Solmar V. These islands have been compared to the Galapagos Islands in Ecuador or Cocos Island in Costa Rica because of the big animal encounters they provide.21 Mar 2009 - 00:00 - 29 Mar 2009 - 00:00 | Islas Revillagigedos - also known as Socorro Island(s) | Solmar V liveaboard
